The Naked Mind movement, created by Annie Grace, is a modern alcohol-free living approach that blends psychology, neuroscience, and personal development to help people change their relationship with alcohol—without relying on willpower or traditional “recovery” labels. In short, it’s a mindset-based, science-backed, shame-free path to living alcohol-free, with an emphasis on curiosity over judgment and personal freedom over strict rules.

Annie Grace rose quickly in the corporate world, becoming the youngest vice president at 26 and later holding a global C-level marketing role by age 35—while secretly drinking up to two bottles of wine per night
Forced to confront how alcohol was negatively impacting her health, relationships, and sense of self, she realized that constant attempts to exert willpower only intensified her desire to drink
Grace distilled her insights from psychology, neuroscience, and cultural critique into a PDF. When she published it online, it was downloaded 20,000 times in just two weeks—a clear signal of widespread resonance
Buoyed by this early response, she self-published This Naked Mind, which was later picked up by Penguin Random House. The book made its formal debut in January 2018 (with an eBook release earlier, in October 2015)
As demand grew, Grace introduced The Alcohol Experiment, a 30-day, alcohol-free challenge built around self-reflection and mindset change. It offered a structured, compassionate framework—whether for total abstinence or reducing consumption
Over time, she formalized her methodology into TNMI. The Institute trains coaches, therapists, and healthcare professionals in the proprietary H.R.T. model (Hope, Relationship, Tactics & Tools) to help people eliminate not just behaviors but the desire to drink
By the mid-2020s, over 400,000 individuals had participated in The Alcohol Experiment, and her membership platform, THE PATH, provided ongoing support and transformation
This Naked Mind by Annie Grace
Instead of focusing on resisting alcohol, it aims to remove the desire for it by exposing how it works in the brain, challenging cultural beliefs, and reframing alcohol as something with no real benefits.
Uses brain science, habit change principles, and emotional awareness to address subconscious conditioning around drinking.
Avoids terms like “alcoholic” or “addict,” focusing instead on self-empowerment and curiosity.
Encourages exploration, journaling, and education to naturally lose interest in drinking rather than forcing abstinence from day one.
Offers books, online courses, podcasts, and group programs like The Alcohol Experiment and This Naked Mind 30-Day Challenge.
This Naked Mind does not offer meetings, but it does provide a number of guided programs and challenges at https://thisnakedmind.com/programs-training/
